A Foodie’s Exploration of Chile

There are few better ways to get to know a destination than through its food! We’ve combined some of our favorite foodie finds in Santiago and neighboring wine valleys in this four-day exploration. Tailor the trip to meet your own needs or join us for the next Upscape Departure on May 7-10, 2018.

Day 01

TAKE IN | a panoramic view of the city from atop Cerro (hill) San Cristobal

PEEK | into the life and mind of beloved poet and Nobel Laureate Pablo Neruda at his whimsical residence filled with art, eccentric collections and his Nobel Prize

SIP | your first sips of Chilean wine at Vinomio, a wine shop dedicated to introducing the consumer to small-batch, independent and other hard-to-find Chilean wines

STEP INTO | the food studio of Chilean Chef Patricio Cáceres, Motemei, for an interactive food experience and seven-course tasting

Day 02

START | the day in the iconic Plaza de Armas, learning how the history of Chile’s founding and its Spanish colonial roots continue to influence Chilean cuisine today

SAVOR | the flavors of Chile in the buzzing La Vega market, Santiago’s largest and most vibrant produce market that has been at the city’s center for over 200 years

TASTE | whatever your heart desires, like the simple, but tasty sopaipilla, a “cola de mono”, or a home cooked empanada

SIT DOWN | at the table across from a MOVI (Movement of Independent Winemakers, in Spanish) winemaker as they take you through a handpicked selection of MOVI wines to explore your tastes and compliment your dinner

Day 03

ESCAPE | into Santiago’s neighboring wine valley, Casablanca, where Chile’s move toward cool-climate viticulture began 25 years ago when innovative winemakers dared to suggest planting in this pre-coastal region

VISIT | the team at La Recova, a boutique vineyard that specializes in making wine from a single varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

LAUGH | over a delicious lunch with a view at the quiet family vineyard, Villard Wines, with Charlie Villard himself

TRAVEL | back to Santiago to freshen up and head to the highly-acclaimed Boragó, chef Rodrigo Guzman’s restaurant that nurtures an innovative culinary concept combining 100% local ingredients, European cooking techniques, and a dedicated philosophy focused on provoking and awakening the senses

Day 04

ENJOY | one last breakfast before heading to the Santiago airport (SCL) in time for your flight home
