Highlights of Easter Island

Highlights of Easter Island

Considered the most remote island on Earth and deemed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Easter Island is unlike any other place on Earth. This enigmatic island may be best known for the more than 1,000 monumental stone heads, or Moai, scattered across its storied surface. The history of Rapa Nui holds secrets that may never be fully understood, but there is still much to be learned from its vibrant people, customs and cuisine. The rolling green hills, gaping volcanic craters, and virgin coastline found at every turn only add to the allure.

Day 01

Depart from Santiago and fly over 2,300 miles of ocean to reach Easter Island. Meet the Moai at Ahu Akivi, the only platform on the island whose statues look out toward the ocean.

Day 02

Channel your inner archaeologist on a visit to the Vaihu, Akahanga, Tongariki and Te Pito Kura temples, as well as the Rano Raraku quarry where nearly all the Moai were made. Reflect on the magnitude of this ancient civilization while strolling along the white sands of Anakena beach.

Day 03

Set out on a full-day pilgrimage, starting with the Rano Kau Volcano and the mesmerizing lake formed within its crater. Later, stop at the traditional village of Orongo and the mysterious set of islets nearby, two known sites of the original Birdman ceremony.

Day 04

Enjoy one last breakfast with a view before saying good-bye to the enigmatic Easter Island and heading back to Santiago.
