Today, we’ll spend the day at Estancia La Bamba de Areco, a beautiful colonial-style estate just 2.5 hours from central Buenos Aires.
The day includes a traditional Argentine asado (barbecue) lunch and a gaucho (cowboy) demonstration, offering insight into Argentina’s colonial heritage and the legendary gaucho culture. La Bamba also offers a variety of activities to choose from, including horse riding, carriage rides, mountain biking, hot stone massages, and a large swimming pool. The estancia is home to an international polo team, with two polo fields on-site. If you’re visiting during the polo season, you can watch practice sessions or matches, and experienced polo players can even arrange for private lessons.
Optional: You can also visit San Antonio de Areco, one of Argentina’s oldest towns, just 13 kilometers away. Steeped in history, the town features narrow colonial streets, churches, bars, and museums. Explore the life of the gaucho at the Ricardo Guiraldes Gaucho Museum, where the famous novel Don Segundo Sombra (1926) was inspired. You’ll also have the chance to observe skilled silversmiths and leather craftsmen, continuing the traditional arts that have made San Antonio de Areco renowned worldwide.

This morning, head to Los Glaciares National Park. As you approach Perito Moreno Glacier, the first view is breathtaking—nestled along a narrow arm of Lago Argentino, with the towering Andes in the background. While the initial sight is stunning, it’s nothing compared to the close-up view from the viewing platforms. The glacier is alive with the sounds of cracking ice, and massive blocks of ice frequently break off, crashing into the lake with a thunderous roar.
Next, enjoy a boat trip for an even closer view. Departing from the southern arm of Lago Rico, the boat will sail along the glacier’s front face, offering a spectacular perspective of the towering ice wall. You’ll board at the “Bajo Las Sombras” bay, about six kilometers from the glacier’s viewing balconies. The boat trip provides a unique opportunity for nature lovers and photographers to experience the glacier up close, with the sound of cracking ice and distant icefalls adding to the drama of the landscape.
